As we approach the winter break, here are some updates and reminders in relation to upcoming festive activities.
The annual Peh and a Pint celebration takes place this Thursday in Annie’s! Join us from 4pm for a festive get-together featuring a fun quiz, light refreshments, and delicious pies. Don’t forget, it’s also Christmas Jumper Day, so we’d love to see your best festive knitwear.
If you haven’t booked your place yet, you can do so on Eventbrite. If you’ve already booked a ticket but can no longer make it, please cancel your ticket to help us manage catering.
As in previous years, we’re asking for a small donation to take part in the quiz. All proceeds will go to Dundee Bairns, a local charity tackling food poverty. A representative from the charity will join us on the night to say a few words and thank us for our support.
You can donate in any of the following ways:
The 2025 Abertay Christmas card is now available to send to colleagues, contacts, and friends. There are two versions available in two formats (static graphic and motion graphic), which have been sent to you via email with instructions on how to use them.
A reminder that the University will be closed for the winter break from 5pm on Tuesday 23 December 2025 and will reopen on the morning of Monday 5 January 2026.
Although a security presence will remain on site throughout the closure, please avoid coming to the campus unless you have an essential reason to do so (attending to lab-based research projects, for example). If you do need to come to campus over this period, please let the team know by filling in the Christmas closure access form on the Campus Facilities Hub.
The Library will remain open daily from 11am to 5pm (excluding Boxing Day) throughout the closure. Student assistants will be available to support self-service book lending and returns.
The Abertay Students’ Association will also host a festive lunch on Christmas Day (Thursday 25 December) for students staying on campus.
The Support Enquiry Zone (SEZ) and services such as Advisory and Counselling will be closed during the break. Students needing urgent help should use the external out-of-hours services listed on our support pages.
We hope that you can enjoy a restful break and we will be in touch with all students to advise that staff won’t be expected to reply to calls, messages, or emails over the closure period. The text below can be used by student-facing colleagues as an out of office message if required.
‘The University is now closed for the winter break, and I will reply to your email after Monday 5 January. The Library building will be open daily from 11am to 5pm over the closure period (excluding Friday 26 December 2025) for those who need a warm place to study. However, Library and support services staff will not be on site. If you need urgent support over the closure period, please refer to the services detailed on our support pages.’
If you have any questions about the winter closure arrangements, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
